CSC and TasTAFE Partner to Deliver Graduates that are Workforce Ready
News Release -- August 17, 2016
Program focuses on building global standard skills and experience
Sydney, Australia, August 17, 2016 - CSC (NYSE: CSC) and TasTAFE today announced the launch of a new partnership that will build a pathway for TAFE students to gain real world experience through working at CSC Hobart’s Centre of Excellence (COE).
As part of the TAFE course, Cert IV in IT Support, students will complete a work placement program at a CSC Service Desk COE, with the aim of helping them deliver more value in the workplace sooner.
The new program with TasTAFE will provide students with four months of direct work experience so they are work-ready upon completion. CSC and TasTaFE designed the course specifically to suit an IT outsourcing environment and are now working to accredit the service desk training courses.
The experience students will get through the collaboration between CSC and TasTAFE will reflect a far greater focus on the IT outsourcing skills students need to be successful when they graduate. All graduates in the programme will be trained to a standard that a global IT outsourcing company would recruit for, and they will have translatable skills that can be used anywhere in the world.
Seelan Nayagam, managing director, CSC Australia & New Zealand, said, “We are proud to partner with TasTAFE in an initiative that will shape the skills, experience and readiness of our future workforce. It will also help us continue to promote and enhance the calibre and skills of Tasmania’s technology workforce.”
Part of CSC’s mission in Tasmania is to further build relationships with local educational institutions to help upskill students in technology and prepare them for real-world working conditions.
Kerryn Meredith-Sotiris, TasTAFE Information Technology Education Manager, said, “TasTAFE has worked closely with CSC to design and build a truly innovative Service Desk Cert IV course. Together we have established a framework to provide skills, experience and workplace knowledge to students undertaking this course. The course will equip graduates with the right skills to pursue their chosen career in the IT Industry.”
CSC’s Centre of Excellence was established in May 2015 to further advance CSC’s delivery capabilities across enterprise and government organisations and to build a diversified services platform for customers. The COE went live and began taking service desk calls in December 2015.
“The Hobart COE continues to be a benchmark in CSC’s service desk offering, delivering a service culture has resonated strongly with customers, and achieving record customer satisfaction levels in the short time it has been operational,” added Nayagam.
The first course intake which commenced on 25 July 2016 will run through till 16 December 2016. Students will participate in two weeks of preparation training at TasTAFE followed by a week’s intensive workshop at CSC before supporting customers.
