CSC and Zellabox Revolutionise Portable Technology Infrastructure
News Release -- June 28, 2010
Sydney, Australia, 28 June 2010 – CSC (NYSE: CSC) today announced a reseller agreement with Zellabox Pty Ltd, a leading provider of Micro Data Centres. Under the agreement, CSC will offer Zellabox Micro Data Centre solutions to its existing and prospective client base.
The Micro Data Centre is a cost effective, easily installed facility that provides the infrastructure of a conventional server room in a portable, self contained cabinet. Users can move the cabinet and its contents between sites with minimum risk and effort, whilst protecting the security of their networking and server equipment. By replacing a three meter by three meter server room, the Micro Data Centre also offers a greener option for enterprises.
“Zellabox’s self-supervised Micro Data Centre was developed as a result of the demands of clients with ICT infrastructure in remote sites,” said Clinton Keeler, director, Zellabox. “The logistics and expense of constructing and managing small, remote server rooms has historically been prohibitive - until now. We have chosen CSC as our major distributor because of their long standing reputation as an ICT Solutions Provider of choice for a wide range of clients.”
The Micro Data Centre has access control features which provide higher levels of security, ensuring that only those with authorisation can access the cabinet. The built-in cooling system provides a portable, climate-controlled environment for equipment and the unit also monitors critical environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity, liquid presence, and intrusion.
Because of its strength, small size and ease of portability the Micro Data Centre is ideal for deployment to remote locations such as mine sites, offshore drillings rigs, regional banks and metropolitan or regional offices. CSC has seen early adopters of this solution in the transport and energy management industries.
“Our clients are looking to save floor space in their remote server rooms to reduce capital expenditure, said Danny Willmott, director of managed computing services, CSC in Australia. “We also have clients who can't prepare new space fast enough to meet current demands. Either way, the Micro Data Centre presents our client base with a unique opportunity that eliminates the need for a purpose built server room.”
The Zellabox Micro Data Centre has been an outstanding success for Metro Power Company, an energy services consultancy specialising in integrated active energy management, energy conservation and carbon emissions solutions for the manufacturing, industrial and resources sectors.
Commenting on the Micro Data Centre, Timothy Edwards, managing director, Metro Power Company said, “The secure Micro Data Centre has been a perfect alternative to signing co-location agreements with large data centres. We get secure access when we want and where we want it. The Micro Data Centre’s resilience to power and environmental fluctuations – together with handy customisable configurations (such as automated emergency generation) – has allowed our Operations Control Centre in Technology Park to ride through no less than seven grid blackouts over the last summer. We're very pleased with the Zellabox Micro Data Centre, and look forward to many more years of reliable use.”
