CEBIT 2018: DXC Technology Presents Secure Industry 4.0 Network Based on Blockchain
News Release -- June 12, 2018
Böblingen, 12 June 2018 — DXC Technology (NYSE: DXC), the world’s leading independent, end-to-end IT services company, will present a new secure Industry 4.0 network based on blockchain technology at CEBIT 2018 in Hannover (12-15 June). This solution addresses the main target investment area for German manufacturing industry managers.
According to a DXC survey on digital transformation, more than 80 per cent of industry managers in Germany plan to focus their Industry 4.0 investments on IT security and on supporting education and training of their current workforce in order to develop smart factories of the future and digitally transform. At the same time, 71 per cent of German managers want to invest jointly in a cooperative platform technology with partners from their value chain by 2020.
The new DXC Industry 4.0 ecosystem enables legally compliant interaction between partners (smart contracts), automates the conclusion of contracts, documents the degree to which they are fulfilled or serves as a platform for networked production. During CEBIT 2018, in DXC booth R62 at the open-air exhibition grounds, DXC will present how the platform works through a practical example of smart contracts for delivering orders between production sites, as well as a case of blockchain-based order-controlled production.
“A secure Industry 4.0 network is key for implementing digital transformation in the manufacturing industry,” says Martin Rainer, manufacturing industry leader, DXC Technology North and Central Europe. “Together with security experts we’ve developed a decentralised Industry 4.0 platform, where the interaction between people, machine and company is safeguarded by blockchain technology.”
The evan.network, an enterprise-ready blockchain operated and owned by well-known European companies, helps make the platform possible. Thomas Müller, co-founder of the Dresden-based blockchain specialist Contractus and DXC project partner, explained: “The evan.network serves as the technical basis of the new Industry 4.0 platform. In this way, a secure interaction is mapped in the network via the blockchain.”
DXC Technology, Contractus and other industrial and research partners started the project implementation phase of the Industry 4.0 platform to provide efficient, order-related production using additive manufacturing. The aim is for partner companies to share production resources with each other. The new platform will enable the participants in the partner network to directly handle key processes, from digital ordering with supplier selection, production and fully automated quality control, to final payment.
