DXC Technology “Industry 4.0” Survey on Smart Factories in Germany Finds Managers Want to Focus on IT Security
Pressemitteilung -- November 14, 2017
Böblingen, November 14, 2017 — DXC Technology (NYSE: DXC), the world’s leading independent, end-to-end IT services company, today reported the results of a survey of industry managers in Germany about smart factories of the future. Seventy-eight percent of those surveyed predict that IT security will become more important when interacting with customers, suppliers and competitors. Fifty-six percent report for security measures that deal with the special tasks of smart factory challenges.
“Digital transformation in the industry requires a new setup for IT security, which includes the shop floor with its fieldbus systems and ensures its safety requirements,” said Johannes Diemer, head for Industry 4.0, DXC Technology, Germany. “As our latest Industry 4.0 study findings show, about two in three companies expect that the Industry 4.0 networks will create security challenges that they cannot evaluate only by themselves. Sixty percent report that they, in particular, do not have a clear picture of the relevant stakeholders with respect to digital safety.”
DXC Delivers Support to its Customers
To address the new tasks, a majority of the industrial managers surveyed say they need to raise their IT security budget to adapt to the smart factory environment (76 percent). At the same time, 54 percent think it is better only to invest in defence against a security threat the day it occurs — rather than work pre-emptively.
“This is acting carelessly since the complexity of the connected IT and OT world with all its new interfaces increases the options and variance of attacks dramatically,” said Diemer. “Further, the potential damage caused by cyber-attacks now has a direct impact on production. The related production downtime is a main risk for the manufacturing industry.”
As the world’s leading independent IT services provider — with many years of experience in the field of digitizing production — DXC Technology delivers the needed professional support for its customers. Its mission is to guide enterprises on their digital journeys in their home country of Germany and beyond the borders of the regions worldwide.
