Guiding principles of better data interoperability in healthcare
The healthcare industry needs to be able to tap into and analyze data to achieve smart patient engagement, improve the patient journey, and give stakeholders access to information in real time for better health outcomes.
To achieve these objectives, organizations will need to leverage technologies, such as predictive modeling and artificial intelligence, and take steps to improve data interoperability.
This can be done by adopting five principles. First, data should be aggregated, standardized and stored in a repository outside silos. Second, new data-sharing models are needed to support progressive care practices. Third, a real-time data feed from core applications to a centralized data repository will allow access to real-time data. Fourth, automated workflows will allow organizations to respond to challenges. And fifth, data should be shared using industry standards such as FHIR.
