Our team created a solution that will transform the way clinicians interact with patients at the point of care, enabling clinicians and other care providers to focus more on the patient and less on technology.
The solution integrates work processes, curates patient information and automates the creation of patient notes, freeing care providers to focus more on care and less on administrative activities and searching for relevant information. This facilitates better personalized care and preventive programs, which in turn reduces expensive and unplanned hospital admissions.
Curated patient data and automated transcriptions
Typically, a doctor or nurse reviews patient information before consulting with the patient. Using machine learning, our solution presents only the most relevant information based on the patient’s medical issue. This improves efficiency for the clinician.
"Clinicians caring for patients is at the heart of everything we do."
Then, when the clinician consults with the patient, our solution “listens” to the conversation and uses artificial intelligence (AI) and speech-to-text technology to transcribe the conversation into key-coded clinical terms (our clinical team provided a large set of medical terms and clinician abbreviations).
The combination of AI and easy data entry through voice- and text-based abbreviations — which has impressed clinicians when demonstrated — enables the care provider to concentrate on the patient instead of having to take notes.
Further, with the information in structured form, it can be used to provide insights not only for the patient’s treatment but for population health analysis and broader research.
Personas: A holistic view
The solution, called Care Suite Personas, is the interface to DXC Care Suite, a comprehensive healthcare ecosystem built on our proven electronic medical record (EMR) solutions, including DXC Lorenzo. Care Suite Personas takes a holistic view of care providers, combining role (e.g., doctor or nurse) with care setting (e.g., hospital or outpatient) and process (e.g., run an outpatient consultation or undertake a drug round on a ward) to create various scenarios called “workstations.” Users select a workstation (implemented on a tablet or desktop computer) and are presented with the relevant information and workflow. This is in contrast to a system designed only around a function, such as ordering a test, which gives a disjointed user experience.
The first workstation DXC Technology developed is for an outpatient clinical consultation. There is a roadmap to develop workstations across acute care.
Care Suite Personas uses APIs based on the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard for healthcare data exchange, so it can integrate with any FHIR-enabled EMR system. Care Suite Personas is implemented in the cloud using the DXC Healthcare Cloud.
Because Care Suite Personas is easy to use, with simplified data entry and voice support, it simplifies the use of EMR systems overall, critical for overcoming low adoption rates, which is, in turn, essential for transforming the healthcare industry. It’s all about the computer working for the clinician rather than the clinician working on the computer.
