Sydney-based QBE is among the top 20 general insurance and reinsurance companies in the world, with more than 17,000 employees in 43 countries. Following a series of acquisitions, the company has increased its focus on growing in key global insurance markets, looking to double its business in the Asia Pacific region.
Achieving that kind of ambitious growth in today’s quickly evolving market requires an insurance company to modernize its systems, says John Brisco, chief operating officer Latin America, CIO Emerging Markets, QBE Insurance. “Mobile is here, big data is here and the way a customer expects to be serviced by insurers will change dramatically. Insurers have to respond to this,” Brisco says.
Toward that end, QBE is tapping into DXC’s expertise as part of a digital transformation effort. By leveraging DXC’s cutting-edge technology and decades of insurance industry experience, QBE is improving speed-to-market and bolstering its mobile and e-business capabilities.
“All insurance organizations are going through the constant challenge of, ‘How do we grow our businesses across all our core markets?’ To do that requires technology innovation,” Brisco says.
Modernization key to success
To help QBE achieve success, DXC is providing the company with a wide range of products and services, such as proprietary software, application services, infrastructure services and project improvement services.
Brisco describes QBE’s relationship with DXC as “very strategic” and, as an example, especially points to DXC’s efforts to help modernize how QBE delivers services to the agent and broker community. “Our movement into e-business services is where DXC is providing tremendous value,” Brisco says. “[DXC] is working with QBE IT as well as QBE business personnel to deliver what we believe will be a leading insurance capability within the e-commerce and digital marketplace.”
Brisco says QBE and DXC have delivered a world-class operational experience for QBE’s insurance agencies. “We’ve worked with DXC to deliver a true end-to-end insurance platform, which not only services insurance transactions, but provides a digital experience to enhance the operations of an agency team,” he says.
DXC has focused on QBE’s holistic goals and ambitions, as opposed to pushing one-point solutions. “They’re providing us with what we would say is more of a value proposition in regard to how they believe they can assist us,” he says.
That holistic approach, along with the design of the digital platform, allows QBE to release products and functionality faster than ever, and quicker than its competitors in the marketplace. “This brings a huge advantage to QBE,” Brisco says. “It’s something that is a true innovation in the marketplace, and DXC working with QBE has made that happen.”
The operational success doesn’t stop there. Brisco says that going forward, “This gives us great confidence as we seek to roll out the platform to additional countries in the future and also build new products and functionality over the course of the next year.”
Pushing the technology envelope
Building on a relationship that has existed for more than 30 years, DXC has played a key role in delivering modernized e-business solutions that have improved speed-to-market and ease-of-use, and have helped QBE gain deeper insight into its customers’ insurance portfolios. “DXC’s insurance knowledge is outstanding. That is based on years of developing leading-edge insurance solutions, as well as its own global position in the marketplace today.”
Brisco says a key to delivering solutions that contribute to QBE’s business growth is providing multichannel offerings that take advantage of the latest advances in technology. Part of this is accomplished by pushing the technology envelope. “QBE expects DXC to help us push the boundaries and [develop] new solutions and concepts. The QBE group fully believes innovation is going to be a key enabler to supporting our growth ambitions across the globe,” he says.
Brisco says QBE truly relies on DXC to forge innovative paths and provide the technology that will help the company drive growth. “In terms of diversity, partnering with DXC brings exposure to a number of different capabilities and different skill sets, which help complement QBE staff,” Brisco says. “It’s a really exciting and collaborative relationship.”
