DXC Technology and Middin Join Forces to Improve Working Opportunities for Middin Clients
News Release -- January 30, 2020
Rijswijk, the Netherlands, 30 January 2020 – DXC Technology (NYSE: DXC) in the Netherlands has begun a collaboration with care institution Middin to provide onsite training in the DXC company restaurant to further advance job opportunities for people with disabilities. Since the end of 2019, Middin clients have been working at Marvellunch, DXC’s new company restaurant at the DXC Netherlands head office, in Rijswijk.
Through this initiative, 10 to 12 Middin clients, all of whom have a cognitive disability, provide lunch daily for DXC employees and guests. Two supervisors are guiding them and ensuring on-the-job training. The program is aimed at enabling Middin’s clients to prepare for the job market by developing working competencies and social skills so that they may become more self-reliant and function independently.
The learning-and-working initiative is a unique collaboration between a business employer in the IT sector and an institution for long-term care. As part of the program, all 20 competencies of the kitchen assistant and restaurant assistant competency program will be covered, allowing Middin clients to obtain the corresponding level 1 diploma and thereby improve their job prospects.
“Middin believes that everyone is entitled to work, regardless of background or disability,” says Rob van Putten, director for Specialization Work at Middin. “Work provides a sense of purpose and personal value for everyone in terms of functioning independently, being self-supporting, and receiving recognition. We are committed to helping people with disabilities find their talent and guiding them toward work that suits this talent. Working for Marvellunch supports our clients in their development, and we have seen that from the very start of the project. It also ensures that other aspects of life improve for them at the same time. It adds value to people's lives and to our society.”
He adds, “We believe that everyone has a unique talent. We are committed to helping people with disabilities find their talent and to guiding them toward work that suits this talent. In the first few weeks of the project, we have already seen how our clients have developed through this new challenge. Working for Marvellunch at DXC supports them in their development.”
With this initiative, DXC is taking another step toward sustainable social responsibility in the Netherlands. Social responsibility is central to DXC; the company works on dozens of environmental and social inclusiveness initiatives worldwide.
“At DXC in the Netherlands, we find it important to turn our words into deeds when it comes to social responsibility,” says Coks Stoffer, managing director, DXC Netherlands. “We are offering Middin clients a place to learn and work in a business environment, and the project has been embraced by our employees. We all feel it’s a great thing that we are showing our social commitment in this targeted and talent-oriented way.”
