Nearly Half of Dutch Companies See Digital Transformation Translate into Immediate Business Results
Nieuwsbericht -- februari 01, 2018
Rijswijk, 1 February 2018 — DXC Technology (NYSE: DXC), the world’s leading independent, end-to-end IT services company, reported the results of a survey conducted among IT decision makers in the Netherlands. Almost two-thirds (63 percent) of companies in the Netherlands have put plans for digitalization into practice.
Nearly half of all companies (45 percent) even state they have already seen a positive effect in turnover and profits. For companies, digitalization initiatives turn out to be important: no less than 83 percent notice changes in market and competition as a result of digital transformation.
“Nowadays, digital transformation is initiated in more places within a company and executed with an integrated approach,” says Coks Stoffer, managing director, Netherlands, at DXC Technology. “Not only the IT department, but also other departments such as marketing and operations benefit from digital opportunities. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that nearly half of the companies in the Netherlands are already seeing results.”
Security ‘top of mind’ in Dutch companies, development of new business models breaking through
The survey shows that the Dutch IT decision maker is aware of the importance of cyber defence. It is no coincidence that nearly half (47 percent) of the respondents mention security as an important part of the digital agenda. Companies need to focus even more on cyber resistance by preparing and practicing for cyber attacks. According to DXC Technology’s position paper “Managing Enterprise Risk in a Connected World,” it is important to continuously strive to become stronger and more resistant, instead of only surviving attacks.
The study shows that companies are also prioritizing new ways to use technology for better integration of product and service departments (44 percent), and the collection and evaluation of data also get high scores on priority lists (44 percent). Forty-three percent of the companies have put automation and optimization of processes on their agenda. More than a third are actively looking for new business models: 38 percent are working on setting up digital platforms to support new business models.

Cloud software and data analytics most popular, AI and blockchain emerging
With regards to specific technologies, Dutch companies primarily focus on cloud software (44 percent), data analytics and data science (42 percent) and external social networks (37 percent). New technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain are on the rise, as shown by the fact that one-third of the companies have already put these relatively new technologies on their digital agenda.
Challenges for implementation of digital projects
Although more departments and layers within their organizations are working on digital initiatives, 43 percent of IT decision makers notice a challenge in the overall company culture when implementing new technologies. Also, technical training for employees is a hurdle, according to 39 percent of the respondents. Finally, 33 percent notice that employees have a lack of experience in using digital technologies across departmental boundaries.
Despite these challenges, many companies emphasize the opportunities in digital transformation. More than half see large opportunities for improving quality and the use of real-time data for decision-making. “We notice that many companies are working on the next strategic step,” says Stoffer. “Companies need to continuously keep an eye on technological opportunities, so they can stay ahead of the increasingly fierce competition with the help of leading innovations and changes. Our survey shows that IT decision-makers understand the importance of this and want to move on to new business models.”
