DXC Technology Signs Significant Deal to Deliver BankID Digital Identification Solution in Norway
News Release -- February 04, 2019
OSLO, Norway, Feb. 4, 2019 — Vipps AS has signed a four-year outsourcing agreement with DXC Technology (NYSE: DXC) to deliver the leading digital identification and authentication solution in Norway, BankID.
Vipps AS has appointed DXC to run the BankID services in Norway. In the coming four years, DXC will deliver infrastructure, applications, network and security services that enable the operation, governance and development of the digital identification and authentication solution. With the agreement, DXC continues its growth as a digital transformation partner in the Norwegian market.
A national ID solution
Every year more than 650 million transactions are completed by the 4 million users of BankID. This makes BankID the largest ID, authentication and signing service in Norway with an addressable market penetration of 85 percent. Used by all Norwegian banks and an additional 1,200 service providers, the service enables Norwegian citizens to safely identify themselves and sign documents digitally. BankID is classified as a public key infrastructure (PKI) solution, so the quality of the BankID service is critical to the Norwegian society.
“We are pleased that DXC Technology becomes our new supplier of operations, management and development of the BankID services. DXC is a solid, international IT provider that can maintain efficient, safe and stable deliveries, as well as lower costs in the future,” said Rune Garborg, CEO at Vipps AS. “We have conducted a thorough search for a new IT supplier and have considered dozens of players in Norway and internationally. DXC delivered the offer that responded best to our needs and requirements.”
Securing business objectives
With the agreement, Vipps AS selects a digital transformation partner that has a comprehensive understanding of its business and challenges. DXC’s in-depth knowledge and insights about the financial services industry, based on decades of experience working with some of the largest global banking institutions, as well as the company’s world-class partner ecosystem and local Norwegian network and competencies, will ensure a secure, stable and cost-efficient solution that will support BankID in achieving its business objectives.
“BankID is an outstanding showcase for how technology delivers tangible benefits to society and is representing a major building block for successful digital societies. We are proud and excited to have been selected by Vipps AS as the technology and innovation partner. Given our joint strengths and the global opportunities in a wide range of markets, we are driven and committed to extend the BankID success to other societies. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship,” said Jens-Thorsten Rauer, general manager, Banking and Capital Markets, North and Central Europe, DXC Technology.
The newly established collaboration with BankID is of great importance for DXC, as it is based on trust to deliver and operate systems that are paramount for the Norwegian society. It illustrates DXC’s position as a prominent corporate citizen in digitalization throughout Norway and the world.
