World Market Leader Kärcher Converts to Intelligent Real-Time IT via DXC Managed Cloud Services
News Release -- July 11, 2017
Böblingen, 11 July 2017 — Kärcher, the Swabia-based world leader in cleaning technology, becomes a pioneer in real-time data analysis. In partnership with DXC Technology (NYSE: DXC), Kärcher has reorganized the SAP infrastructure in its data center. In the future, it will be possible to compare large quantities of business indicators with market data in the cloud. This allows Kärcher to generate a new quality of data to analyze business. For this purpose, DXC Technology migrated the existing data warehouse environment to SAP´s High-Performance Analytic Appliance (HANA).
“Future-oriented analyses are becoming more and more important in our areas of business,” said Prof. Dr. Matthias Mehrtens, Kärcher vice president, Information Systems. “We were only able to evaluate past data with our old IT platform. In future we evaluate data in real time. More than 2,000 users in 67 countries are using the system today — with upward tendency.”
DXC operates the entire SAP infrastructure for Kärcher in the form of a cloud solution from a data processing center in Germany. “In only three months, we migrated the SAP Business Warehouse systems, which are the knowledge center of Kärcher, to SAP HANA,” said Jürgen Stauber, director, DXC Germany.
The project started with an upgrade of the existing SAP platform, followed by the team preparing the system for SAP HANA. The implementation phase included activation of the nearline storage system, which led to a reduction of the data volume in the main memory due to the efficient segmentation of data.
“We feel that with DXC we are in the best of hands with the new system — regarding security, care, maintenance, as well as further development,” added Prof. Mehrtens.
“By operating the Data Warehouse on SAP HANA aligned to customer orientation, Kärcher is now able to better understand and analyze customer behavior,” Stauber added. “The more customer data is processed, the more we can offer products and services that are closely matched to the market requirements in a more targeted manner.”
Kärcher wants to expand the capacities of SAP HANA in the future to realize the opportunities that the fast in-memory technology offers. “In the past we were mainly looking in the rearview mirror, evaluating past data. This was no longer enough for us. We are now able to create future-oriented analyses with real-time data,” said Prof. Mehrtens.
