Five steps toward a data-driven government organization
Author: Yves Vanderbeken
The volume of data available to government agencies has increased exponentially, outgrowing the ability of most organizations to properly analyze it and gain insights to support key decisions and proactively improve citizen services. Traditional approaches of handling data with reporting technology are not adequate anymore. Governments need to define a strategy for how to cope with these volumes, accepting that the technology is now available for processing and analyzing this data.
How to plan for a successful data transformation journey in government agencies.
Government agencies typically aspire to become data-driven organizations, and some are using data algorithms to process a wide range of services, enabling civil servants to intervene only in the case of exceptions. Many inspiring success stories have emerged, but realistically, each organization’s journey is unique. Data and analytics solutions for one organization may be difficult or impossible to duplicate in another. This paper explores some considerations and key steps toward your journey in becoming a data-driven government organization. It challenges current practices so as to maximize leveraging vast amounts of data for better decision making.
