DXC Lorenzo MaternityTM enables departments to record the case-mix category of each expectant mother, ensuring that the correct payment is received without additional administrative overhead.
Maternity departments in England face a unique challenge when it comes to data capture.
Payments are based on the case-mix of patients. Failure to capture and report the correct information causes maternity services to account for 20% of the number – and 50% of the cost – of claims reported to the NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA).
Lorenzo Maternity is designed to solve this problem. Lorenzo enables departments to record the case-mix category of each expectant mother, ensuring that the correct payment is received without additional administrative overhead. Accurate documentation reduces the need for NHSLA litigation, while improving the care experience.
Key Features of Lorenzo Maternity: Organised by Maternity Episode
The Lorenzo maternity record is organised by maternity episode and is visually separated into the three main phases of a patient experience – antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal. Within each phase, obstetric healthcare professionals receive relevant functionality and patient information.
Provides Up-to-Date Pregnancy Plan. Lorenzo Maternity facilitates the creation and maintenance of an up-to-date pregnancy management plan across all maternity phases. The plan records and displays, at a single glance, key information such as pregnancy risks, intended place of delivery, planned mode of delivery and if patient was offered a labour induction.
Includes Antenatal Care. The antenatal functionality within Lorenzo Maternity encompasses all regular check-ups throughout the patient’s pregnancy. The antenatal patient record header displays the number of fetuses, gravida, parity, date of last menstrual period (LMP), agreed expected delivery date (EDD) and gestation. The functionality also includes substance history details, family history of mother and father, screening in line with national guidance, risk assessment and ultrasound findings.
Manages Labour and Delivery. The intrapartum functionality within Lorenzo Maternity covers all aspects of labour and delivery management, including duration calculations. The workflow is dynamic, responding to factors that influence delivery. For instance, if a newborn presents shoulder dystocia, the system presents the relevant data capture forms. Following delivery, the baby’s record is automatically created, including a link to the national Personal Demographics Service (PDS) to obtain the baby’s new NHS number in real time.
Encompasses Postnatal Care. The postnatal functionality within Lorenzo Maternity covers the entire gamut of postnatal care until the mother and newborn(s) are discharged from the maternity department. The postnatal banner includes a summary of the delivery and newborn details, including gestation at delivery, gravida, parity, date and time of delivery and name and birth order of the newborn(s). Functionality includes postnatal examination, postnatal discharge summary and newborn screening.
Conforms to Maternity Services Data Set (MSDS). Lorenzo Maternity conforms with the requirements for data collection and submission for MSDS. The functionality assists maternity departments in meeting the requirement to collect data and submit monthly central submissions.
